Clementain Charmant

Born in the Golmorre Jungle, the kit that would one day be known as Clementain "Clem" Charmant had a pleasant enough childhood, until he came of age and was expected to become a Wood-Warder. Faced with leaving behind all he'd known for a brutal and solitary life defending the forest, he instead decided to leave behind all he'd known for a destiny of his own choosing, and ran. Through a combination of stowing away and actively seeking passage/making himself useful on ships and merchant caravans, he ended up in the Black Shroud and was taken in by an isolated village of Duskwights, who adopted him as one of their own, going so far as to give him an Elezen name.

Clem spent his gawky teen years exploring Gelmorran ruins with his foster brothers, studying old books they found together, learning music, and generally becoming part of a family. He found meaning in the similarity between the names of his birthplace and the ancestral home of the Duskwights. At times he forgot he was different from them at all.

Once he reached adulthood, Clem thought to train in a martial discipline, both for hunting and defense against increased Garlean incursions into the Shroud. He showed aptitude with both magic and a bow. Initially he sought training at the Archers' Guild, as it was closer to home, but the vibes there were so rancid he decided to take his chances and pack up to study thaumaturgy in Ul'dah.

A Realm Reborn

Clem is tight-lipped about his origins, but it became quickly apparent that he and Zhia'a knew each other already. They were frequently sent out on missions together because of this.

Seventh Astral Era

Following Operation Archon and having seen the destruction he was capable of wreaking with black magic, Clem returned home to the Shroud to reconnect with his family and learn conjury. This did little to blunt his destructive power, but he could heal now, and crucially he could tell himself he was taking more pain out of the world than he was putting in. Whether this was actually true or not varied from day to day.

It was Clem that was asked to dine with the Sultana at the banquet in Ul'dah, due to his prior service to the city-state, and thus he that was framed for her assassination. After this, and narrowly escaping to Ishgard, he decided to withdraw as much as possible from the spotlight and encourage Zhia'a to publicly carry the mantle of the Warrior of Light on his own.
